TRIAD METALS
HISTORY
Triad Metals International was founded in 1987 in Pennsylvania as a privately held, independent steel distributor.
Our Roots & Early Growth
From our modest beginnings, we set out with a clear mission: to deliver high‑quality structural steel and related products, backed by responsive service and integrity. Over time, thanks to the trust of our customers and the dedication of our team, we have grown into one of the leading distributors of structural steel, tubing, pipe, piling, and plate across the United States and Canada.
In those early years, our focus was on establishing strong vendor relationships, building dependable supply channels, and positioning ourselves as a reliable partner in the structural steel sector. What began as a regional operation gradually expanded in scope, footprint, and ambition.
Strategic Expansion & Geographic Reach
To serve a broader market and reduce lead times, Triad Metals expanded strategically across the eastern U.S. and into Canada. Today, our operations span six major locations: in Indiana, Virginia, Alabama, and Ontario, Canada.
A few key expansions worth noting:
- Columbia City, Indiana: Our presence in the Midwest helps us better serve projects in Ohio, Kentucky, and neighboring states. We also partnered with local redevelopment initiatives to build a new business park, reinforcing our commitment to regional growth.
- Petersburg, Virginia: Serves the mid‑Atlantic and southern markets, optimizing delivery and logistics for customers across the region.
- Oshawa, Ontario: Our Canadian facility enhances our ability to support cross‑border projects, leveraging rail, barge, and mill proximity.
We’ve deliberately located our warehouses near major mills and transportation hubs. Many of our facilities offer rail service, and our Pittsburgh and Oshawa locations have direct barge waterway access, enabling us to optimize inbound and outbound logistics.
This geographic diversification ensures that we can deliver quickly, reliably, and cost‑effectively, no matter where your project is located.
Product & Service Evolution
While Triad Metals remains strongly committed to core distribution of steel, our capabilities have evolved markedly to match customer needs and industry trends.
Product Portfolio
We maintain one of the broadest inventories of carbon steel shapes in North America, including:
- Beams, channels, angles, flats, rounds, and squares
- Plate, tubing, and pipe
- Piling (structural & driven)
- Jumbo HSS (Hollow Structural Section) tubing - a modern offering designed for longer spans and heavier loads, providing a cost-effective alternative to built-up welded sections
Value‑Added & Processing Services
To complement our distribution strengths, we provide a range of processing and service capabilities that let us tailor product deliveries to your needs:
- Saw cutting, plate burning, beveling
- Drilling, threading, welding (including pile-tip welding)
- Plate processing (e.g., flame/plasma cutting)
- Structural and plate processing (e.g., custom shapes)
- Logistical services, including freight coordination and project delivery
These services allow our customers to receive steel products ready for installation or downstream fabrication – saving time, handling, and coordination on the job site.
Scale, Volume & Reputation
We move over a million tons of steel annually across our facilities, further positioning Triad as more than a distributor; we’re a logistics engine in the steel supply chain.
Our creditworthiness and business standing are also recognized externally: for example, we have earned strong ratings from Dun & Bradstreet (5A1‑) for financial integrity and performance.
From small custom orders to large, multi-facility projects, our credentials demonstrate that we have the scale, reliability, and trust to support your work.
Looking Ahead
Growth is not just about size—it’s about staying agile, responsive, and forward-thinking. Triad Metals remains committed to:
- Exploring new markets and facility expansions
- Adopting cutting-edge materials (like larger HSS sections)
- Improving service delivery, tracking, and customer interfaces
- Expanding processing capacities and supply chain efficiencies
We believe the future of steel distribution lies in combining strong product fundamentals with intelligent services and logistics. Our goal is not merely to supply steel—but to be the steel partner our customers rely on for solutions, insight, and performance.
